Descripción

In this sixth video lecture in the Chess Chatter series, I try to answer the beginners profoundly puzzling question: which is better knights or bishops? Obviously, as one grows to understand the game, one becomes comfortable with the idea that there is no definite formula for all circumstances. Therefore, the improving player must work out in each different scenario how to deal with these minor pieces; when to trade, where they are best suited, etcetera. With the following games of mine, I wish to demonstrate how the knight generally prevails in closed, blocked structures because of its ability to hop around fixed pawn chains, unobstructed by its fellow pieces. Although bishops can powerfully dominate a knight, the tables can be turned in the middlegame, when a pawn structure can help to limit the long-range pieces scope. Enjoy!
