(1.16) Checkmatein 4# 0-1 My score of 4/5 won the tournament, alongside Alan Hayward (169) who shared 1st= with me. The 105 pounds prize was nice, but most enjoyable was the Weald Congress itself, which was well-organized and a pleasure to socialize within. Playing blitz with Ian Snape (who outplayed me overall, but could scrape only a draw against my 4...Ng8 Steinitz French!) was great fun, and I met many friendly people. My most enjoyable tournament so far, which - with a barbecue and great weather - was a delightful weekend holiday!
